World AIDS Day – Getting to Zero

According to the March of Dimes, approximately 6,000 women infected with HIV give birth.  The virus can be transmitted to the baby during pregnancy, delivery and nursing.  AmericanPregnancy.org states that if an untreated woman gives birth to a baby, there is a 25% chance that she will pass it on to her baby.  If she gets treatment, that number drops down to 2%.  This is why it is so important for women to know their status, especially if she is pregnant.

December 1st is World AIDS Day, Get Tested!

Testing nowadays is so easy and you can get your results in as little as 20 minutes.  I took one this past weekend and it was so easy.

First, you swab your cheek and move the stick around to the front of your teeth at gum level, then around your entire mouth in a circle.  That’s its.  Twenty minutes later, I had my result.  So much easier than the blood tests of yesteryear. Best part of it all, it was FREE!

Find out where you can get your FREE HIV test in your area.
